2016

Size:  250,000 Sq.ft. Conventional and Exhibition Center

Apostrophe Team: Shivjit Sidhu (Principal Architect), Mohammed Wadkar (Project Architect), Supriya Patil, Nivediat Meher

SITE:

The project is located in the state of Andhra Pradesh, which was bifurcated into A.P. and Telangana. As Hyderabad, now part of Telangana, contained the lions share of international level business and commercial facilities it is a priority of the A.P. government to upgrade existing towns to major urban centers. This project is one of the outcomes for this initiative.

The project is a greenfield site outside the historic pilgrimage site of Tirupati. The site is approximately 35 acres of a mostly flat parcel of land. The site is part of planned complex that will also include an International School and Sports Facility.

PROGRAM:

The project entailed Masterplan and Schematic Architectural design for;

  • International Level Convention Center with two 10,000 pax Halls each

  • Exhibition Center – 5000 pax

  • Retail Complex – Approx. 25,000 sq.ft.

  • 4 or 5 Star Hotel with Banquet Facilities – 200 Key

  • Parking / Staging Area / Mass Transit Support / Service & Support Areas

  • Landscape

CONCEPT / PROCESS:

Apostrophe A+uD oriented the facilities along an existing lake bordering the site to create a waterfront promenade. The program facilities were planned keeping in mind the traffic and visibility requirements.

The project evolved by developing the open space between the major nodes of the program (convention / retail / hospitality) into an extension of the interior program. This resulted in a series of courtyards and terraces with possibility of controlled entry so that events may spill into the exterior space without logistical problems of access, security or interruption of other facilities and site circulation.

The architectural language we adopted deferred to the language of the Dravidian Architectural Style for which the Tirupati Temple is renowned. In particular, we looked at the paths of circulation and corridors which emerge from symmetry and object monumentality manifest in the principal and secondary axis of the site. We also considered the massing of the temple stupa and the colonnade courtyard

MATERIALITY:

Apostrophe has specified the project to have a combination of metal fabrication and pre-fabricated concrete panels for the facade.
